Some Interesting Sites
While visiting Southern Arizona, we have had the opportunity to see some amazing things. There's a lot of history here. There's a peculiar place kind of out in the middle of nowhere. It's called Francisco Grande Hotel and Golf Resort built in 1961 as the spring training home for the San Francisco Giants. The hotel is nine stories high, which is the only visible thing for miles around, and was constructed to create the feel of a Major League Baseball stadium. The overhang on the the north side of the tower was built to resemble the brim of a baseball cap and the swimming pool was built in the shape of a baseball bat. The championship golf course was purposely designed to be extremely long so that the baseball players (who hit any ball a mile) could be challenged playing the course on their off time. John Wayne was said to frequent the hotel. He owned a large ranch nearby. Rumor has it that when he was guest he occupied the entire top floor where the views are outstanding.
